Mandalas

A mandala is a Hindu or Buddhist graphical symbol for the universe. Some are simple, a circle with an inscribed square and a representation of some aspect of the universe on each side.
Others are more complicated. The mandala on the left is such an example: a circle containing a pattern of five circles, each of which contains a pattern of five circles. Click on the picture for a larger image in a new window.
On the right is the second generation of the corresponding fractal. Click on the picture for a later generation in a new window.
Of course, because the five circle pattern is repeated on only two levels, any claim of fractality must not be taken too seriously for the first reason raised in common mistakes.
