Properties of Inversion

Suppose the circle B passes through the center of the inverting circle A.

The center of A inverts in A to the point at infinity, so B inverts to a straight line.

We distinguish three cases

B intersects A in two points.

B intersects A in one point.

B intersects A in not at all.

This can be made rigorous by taking appropriate limits of the formulas for the inverse of a circle.
